Crafting weapons in Team Fortress 2?

When you use a class token, item slot token, and scrap metal to craft an item, you get a weapon in that slot and for that class. But my question is: do you get to pick which item it crafts? Is it random? If I combine scout token + melee token + scrap metal can I choose which scout melee weapon it crafts or is it random?
